The Grohmann Museum at Milwaukee School of Engineering has among its more than 800 artworks more than 160 sculptures of workers. Many of them were created by well-known sculptors like Constantin Meunier, Emile Louis Picault, Gerhard Janensch and Max Kalish. Most of the figures come from the Golden Age of worker sculptures - the time around 1900.
This volume - which is one of the only books that covers worker sculptures comprehensively––presents these figures and provides the reader with descriptions and interpretations. Additional sculptures by the artists represented in the Grohmann Museum are added as well as several figures from other collections, in order to show the broad range of this genre. Enjoy the fascinating insight into an important subset of the art of the Man at Work collection from the past to the present.
